| Political Sciences, MCA sail into quarters | | Inter-Department Cricket Tournament of JU | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 9: Department of Political Sciences and MCA Department today qualified for the quarterfinals winning their respective matches in the ongoing Inter-Department Cricket Tournament of the University of Jammu on the campus, here. In the first match of the day, Political Sciences registered an emphatic 165 runs victory over Department of English. Batting first, Political Sciences set a daunting task of 237 runs for the opponent to chase in allotted 20 overs for the loss of five wickets. In reply, English Department could not chase and bowled out for just 71 runs in 12.3 overs. Mohd Farooq hit brilliant 96 off mere 36 deliveries with the help of seven sixes and nine boundaries. Paramjeet Singh contributed 54-ball 69 runs including a six and 12 boundaries. Ajay Aryan and Pawandeep Singh added valuable 21 and 17 runs respectively. From English Department, Inam-ul-Haq and Varinder Singh took two wickets each while Mukhiar bagged one. Batting second, English Department could not face the bowling wrath of Political Sciences, especially the spell bowled by Ajay Kumar, who took four wickets for 19 runs in three overs and the whole side bowled out in 12.3 overs for 71 runs. Varinder Singh and Sakib were only batsmen who touched the double figure mark with 12 and 16 runs respectively. Besides, Ajay Kumar, Ajay Aryan, Pawandeep Singh, Nilanjan and Mazahir shared one wicket each.In the second match of the day, MCA Department registered a six wickets win over The Business School. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Business School set a target of 117 runs losing seven wickets in 15 overs. Vukesh was top scorer with 27-ball 34 runs, followed by Anil and Arjun Singh, who added 15 and 14 runs respectively. From MCA Department, Himanshu took three wickets and Pankaj two. In reply, MCA reached the required total making it a close finishing in 14.4 overs for the loss of four wickets. Brij Bushan made fast 25 (off 16 balls, 1x6, 4x4) while Vishal Malhotra and Himanshu contributed 32 and 29 runs respectively. Bharat, Ankush and Arjun shared apiece each from Business School. Today's matches were officiated by Raj Kumar, Ram Krishan and Raman Kumar while Sat Pal was scorer.
