| Quality education imperative for development : Tarigami | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 9: Check the menace of copying as it mars the future of brilliant students and impedes the process of evolving an environment for imparting quality education stated Minister for School Education, Peerzada Mohammad Syed at a function organized by the All J&K Plus-2 Lecturers' Forum in connection with the celebrations of Annual Lecturers' Day at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, here today. The Minister said that Government has taken various steps to safeguard the interests of the Lecturers and a mechanism has been put in place to conduct regular PSC meetings for promotions in various categories. He said that issue of regularization of Incharge Lecturers and Principals was taken up in the Cabinet and it was decided to refer the case to the PSC for early clearance. He said that Government will make a provision under which the Lecturers will be exempted from facing PSC for promotions. Referring to the measures taken by the Government to regulate the fee structure in private schools, the Minister said that the Government has decided to constitute Parents Associations which will keep an eye on this matter of vital importance. It would be made mandatory on the Private schools to consult the Parents Association before enhancing the fees, he added. He appreciated the role of the private institutions for providing quality education to the students. He however, said that these institutions will not be allowed to commercialize the system. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma stressed the need for imparting value based education to students. He stressed for reviving and strengthening the 'Guru Shishya' tradition to uphold the sanctity of this sacred relationship. CPIM Leader, Tarigami said development in all spheres of life was supplementary to better education system, while as better education system is purely a result of outstanding performance by teachers' fraternity. In pursuit of this goal, he said, as a global trend "right to education" is being adopted in all constitution s of democratic states as one of the fundamental rights. This dire responsibility is saddled on the teacher's community and they should discharge their duties with excellence. Tarigami supported the genuine demands of the plus 2 lectures and urged upon the Government to redress their grievances, including re-organization and removal of pay anomalies. All J&K Plus 2 Lecturers Forum appealed the Government to resume the negotiation process with various Trade Union leaders to settle the issues of the employees. Harsh Dev Singh, Charanjit Singh, Secretary Education G. A. Peer, Director School Education Zeehada Khan and President, All J&K Plus 2 Lecturer's Forum H. D. Quershi also spoke on the occasion.
