| 39th Foundation Day of NSUI celebrated | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 9: National Students' Union Of India today celebrated its 'Foundation Day'. at Congress Bhawan, Rajeev Saraf, ex state president NSUI, was the Chief Guest on the occasion unfurl the NSUI flag in the presence of the state president Rashid Choudhary and after that the gathering was addressed by both of them. In his address Shri Rajeev Saraf laid light on the history of NSUI. He said that though the idea was conceived in 1969 itself, NSUI was formally constituted on 9th April 1971. He added that over the last four decades, NSUI has redefined the whole concept of students' activism through its ideology and practices. Whereas a students' organization was identified by violence, chakka-jams and unrest, NSUI introduced fresh dynamisms and standards. NSUI have been the first to reach its fellow brethren in times of flood as well as drought, tsunami as well as earthquake. NSUI have played a participatory role with governments to implement the best practices and policies. NSUI has been a bridge between students and policy makers. In his address Rashid Choudhary said that the youth are the key agents of social change, economic development and technological innovation. There is a need for youth involvement and participation in the socio-economic, cultural, and political environment of the country, in its development programs, as well as in activities based on youth's specific needs, desires and aspirations is always needed. This is the motto of NSUI and we have been successful in fulfilling the dreams of our founders as well as the aspiration of lakhs of students on whose behalf we fight. He also said that today NSUI in Jammu and Kashmir has spread to every nook and corner and it is the only student organization which has been able to make a sound footing in the Kashmir valley. Other peominent leaders who spoke on the occasion include Aijaz Mehar, vice president, state general secretaries Arjun Singh Pathania, Charanjeet Singh Cheeku, JU president Rajveer Singh Manhas, Bageshwar Sharma, Fairoze Khan, Sajad Ahmed, Riaz Ahmed, Manu Magotra, Chetan Misri, Gurdev Singh Thakur, Amit Manhas and district President Uttam Magotra, Riaz Faisal, Abhishek and Rohit Singh Later the team of NSUI Jammu district led by Arjun Singh Pathania, state general secretary and JU President Rajveer Singh Manhas went to slums and distributed sweets among the slum dwellers.
