| 2 Shot Dead on LoC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Apr 9: Troops foiled another infiltration bid when they shot dead two suspected militants in Keran sector in the frontier district of Kupwara, police said today. A massive operation has been launched in the entire forest as there are reports that more militants were hiding there, police sources said here today. However, Defence Ministry spokesman was not available to give details about the incident. They said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan controlled Kashmir (PcK) early this morning in Keran sector under the cover of darkness. However, when challenged and asked to surrender at a particular place on this side of the LoC, militants opened fire. Troops also retaliated and in the fierce encounter two militants were killed. Two ak rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain infiltrators. This was the fourth infiltration bid during the past two weeks in this sector.On April 4, two infiltrators were killed by troops in the same sector.Troops on March 27 killed five heavily armed militants when they crossed over to this side. Earlier, troops killed three militants near the LoC. Despite ten to twelve feet of snow on the borders, militants are making attempts to sneak into this side from PcK. Similar infiltration attempts were made in Jammu region also where 20 militants were killed after their infiltration into this side recently. Six soldiers also lost their lives during these encounters. A report from Baramulla said massive operation was going on in the woods at Rajpora in the Kupwara district since yesterday. One soldier was killed and another injured in the encounter so far, it said adding more reinforcement was rushed to the area from nearby camps.
