Jammu observes complete bandh

JAMMU: Normal life remained paralysed in entire Jammu Province today as a result of bandh call was given to register a protest
against proposed ban on Inter-District Recruitment bill Bhartiya Janta Party Jammu city and its surrounding areas witnessed complete shutdown crippling entire life in the winter capital, today.
Shops and other business establishments remained closed and government offices observed thin presence as passenger vehicles remained off the road, today.
There was heavy deployment of Police and paramilitary forces in and around Jammu city to thwart any untoward incident.
However, due to Bandh, tourists/pilgrims visiting Jammu had to face difficulties to reach their respective destinations in soaring temperature of 38 degree Celsius. They were seen moving on foot at many places.
Besides them the college students appearing for exams had to face difficulties in reaching their respective examination halls.
Protesters set up road blockades by burning tyres and held noisy demonstrations at several places.
The police, however, cleared one of the main bridges over river Tawi that connects Jammu city with the rest of the country.
Both the Muslim-dominated Kashmir Valley and Hindu-dominated Jammu region have their own reasons for supporting and opposing the bill that bars applicants from seeking jobs in districts other than their native ones.
State president BJP Shamsher Singh Manhas while congratulating the people for extending their support to the Jammu Bandh, said that the government had exploited Gujjars and Bakerwals for their petty vote bank politics. Government has failed to protect the interest of Jammu and Ladakh.
Manhas further said that complete Bandh was observed in Jammu, Rajouri, Chenani, Samba, Kathua, Hira Nagar, Basohli, Billawar, Akhnoor and many other towns of Jammu province. At these places protest demonstrations were held and effigies of the state government were also burnt. He declared that BJP will continue its struggle till the goal is achieved.
A complete bandh was observed in Kathua and Hiranagar in protest against against the anti people and anti Inter district recruitment policies of the coalition government. The bandh call was given by the Bhartya Janta Party (BJP) except Tehsils Billawar, Basholi and Bani. In Kathua and Hiranagar, the activists of the BJP took out procession all around the city and also blocked the national highway for more than one hour where they burnt the effigy of the government.
During the bandh, all the shops, schools and transport system remained paralysed and adversely affected the common people. The former state president of BJP Prof. Nirmal Singh addressed the large gathering in main chowk Kathua and accused the new coalition government for adopting step- motherly treatment with the unemployed youth of the Jammu region in general but SC, OBC,ST and others in particular. He said that it is the first time that some youth of the Jammu region got opportunity to get job in Kashmir region through inter district recruitment policy in which most of the youth of the reserved catogories like SC,OBC,and ST of Jammu region due to the non availability of reserved categories in the Kashmir region , got job against their reservation.
Various organizations who supported the Jammu Bandh included Bar Association Jammu, Transport and Trade Organizations, various Sikh Organizations, All J&K Shri Guru Ravi Sabha, Panun Kashmir, Amar Khashtriya Rajput Sabha, All J&K Mahasha Sadar Sabha, Arora Bans Sabha, Brahman Sabha, Sanatan Dharam Sabha, All J&K SC/ST United Front, Shiv Sena (United), Central University Andolan Samiti, Sanatan Dharam Natak Samaj, Kashmiri Pandit Sabha, Bhagat Maha Sabha, Saraiara Sabha and Anusuchit Jaati Aarakshan Bachao Manch.
