| Finance Minister's Jugglery of Figures Expose Coalition Govt: Gupta | | |
early times report Jammu, Apr 10: MLA, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has described the just ended session of the state assembly as disgusting as several sections of the people had many hopes but these have been belied. Unemployed youths have been left high and dry government employees are on the roads, refugees and migrants are facing lathies and cruel behaviour. The manner in which the government leaders handled the affairs has in fact generated more heat than light, he said. Prof. Gupta said that basically it was Budget Session having wider perspectives. But the budget figures have exposed the coalition leaders, especially the Congress who were share holders in the previous dispensation too. He said the finance minister in his budget speech as also on other occasions openly assailed the previous government on many accounts and its failure at several fronts but the Congressmen remained silent spectators to these brickbats although they were not only partners but also headed the coalition for over 30 months before it collapsed in 2008. The Finance Minister he said while presenting the budget for the year of 2010-11, tried to claim achievements in the previous year but his jugglery of figures got exposed itself when the government issued large sized advertisements to ridicule the agitation by its employees. Prof. Gupta alleged that notwithstanding to their claims about their good work and development works to bring prosperity, their own figures and confessions belie these. The fact remains that despite getting massive Central assistance and grants during all these years of National Conference and Congress-PDP coalition as also now, the dependence at the Centre has increased enormously so much so as per their own advertisements that against "Own Revenue of the state of Rs. 3600 crores, the Pay Bill of the Staff as also that of pensions has gone up to Rs. 11525 crores". What a progress and prosperity? The BJP leader questioned and alleged that all this indicate what a mess has been created. Referring to the unruly scenes and disorder in the House during all these days of the Session, he said this also exposes the incompetency of the leaders of the coalition to manage the affairs of legislation and carry the proceedings in a democratic manner. The leader of the BJP maintained that while the NC with their communal and anti-Jammu mindset tried to carry on their separatist agenda on most of the occasions but the Congress having just one point programme to remain loyal to the chair and stick to power, did not hesitate to play second-fiddle even at the cost of dignity and honour. About the role of BJP, Prof. Gupta asserted that his party at every step not only pleaded the cause of suffering masses and highlighted the problems of the various sections of the people but also put their stiff opposition to the unconstitutional approach adopted by the government leaders. But the entire behaviours of the Congress and National Conference all along indicated that these dynastic parties have little regard for democratic behavior and their approach during the session only led to belittlement of institution of the assembly, he said.
