| Baisakhi festival to be inaugurated at Octori post Suchetgarh | | | Early times report JAMMU, Apr 10: To promote border tourism so as to develop the border areas which possess immense tourism potential as popular tourist destinations this year Baisakhi festival, 2010 would be held at Octori Post, Suchetgarh border. Giving details of the three day event, starting from 13 to 15 April at a press conference conducted here today, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal said that over the years Jammu has come up as major tourist destination with new developed tourism infrastructural facilities. He said the novel concept of promoting border tourism would go a long way in giving fillip to tourism sector. The Baisakhi festival organized by J&K Tourism Department in collaboration with district administration and allied organizations would be held at three places this year. The mela would be inaugurated at Octroi Post, Indo-Pak International Border at Suchetgarh where band display, exhibition, local stalls of ethnic food and beverages, cultural programme will be the main attractions. Moreover, a visit to various prominent sites which include ancient Shiva temple, adjacent to Airport, Peer Baba Budnari Shah, Flower garden at Bhour camp, Agriculture University camp R. S Pura, the site where once was railways station R. S Pura before country's partition, Radha Krishan temple R S Pura, Raghunath temple Suchetgarh, model village Suchetgarh, Octroiy Post Suchetgarh and Indo-Pak border has also been organized by travel and tour operators. The transport for the purpose will be available from Kala Kendra Jammu at 9 a. m. On the second day, the activities will be held on the bank of river Chenab at Jio Potha, Akhnoor from 5 p. m to 7.30 p. m. Traditional bag piper/kukri band will on display near Gurudwara at the entrance and along the way up to Jio Potha. Dholak and Drums beating will also be held. The arrangement for the visit of school children in groups at Jio Potha, Ambaran and other historical and heritage sites will also be made. Exhibition and display of adventure equipments, especially, water sports/hovercraft/rafting/boarding will also be made. Food and beverage stalls will be set up at the walk ways. Cultural programme will also be held from 5 p. m to 7.30 p.m. The salient feature of this day's programmes will be holding of Chander Bhaga Aarti at the river front of Jio Potha from 7 p. m onwards. On the concluding day events will be held at Bagh-e-Bahu and Bahu Fort Circuit near Bagh-e-Bahu, Road show, by local artists and cultural groups and on this occasion with Suryaputri Aarti at Har ki Porhi at 7 p. m. The Divisional Commissioner urged the media, the hotel industry, other tourism related trade organizations and all the citizens to participate in the festival in a big way, to help promote tourism in and around Jammu. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, M K Dwivedi, Director Tourism, Jammu, S M Sahni, Director Horticulture, K K Sharma, President Hotel Industry, travel and tour operators associations were present.
