| Sr cops complain of raw deal in promotions | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 10: The state police services (SPS) IPS officers, who are inducted into IPS from KPS, have alleged raw deal in promotions as compared to the IPS regular recruits (RR). A SPS IPS officer said all KPS officers became eligible for their induction into IPS after eight years of service. However, because of their late induction into IPS, despite the availability of vacancies, badly affected their careers, he added. He said while IPS officers got promotion after every four years, the KPS officers had to wait for six to eight years for their promotion to the next rank. Such a system had deprived several SPS officers from becoming DIGs and IGPs even after serving the department for 25 to 30 years. "While SPS officers struggle to move from SSPs to DIGs, RRs rise to the rank of ADGs and DGs," the officer said. In the last 30 years, only three SPS officers -- Peer Ghulam Hussain Shah, MM Khajuria and Jeelani Pandit -- had risen to the rank of DGs. Though Ashok Bhan and Kuldeep Khuda are the other two locals to become DGs, they are RRs. The officer said there was an emergent need to make promotion of all the police personnel time bound. This was must to raise the morale of the belt-force, he added.
