4/12/2010 12:25:01 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 11: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, suggested Government employees to call off their strike following assurance given to them by Chief Minister, Panthers Party working Chairman, Harsh Dev Singh, denounced repressive policies adopted by the ruling coalition against the employees. Mir said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, had conveyed to the leaders of the employees union that since the Government had not rejected their demand for release of 6th pay commission arrears there was no justification for them to continue with the strike. Minister said that the employees should realise the financial problem the state Government was faced with."We are committed to pay the arrears but all depends on the resources, "Mir said adding that some way will be found out and hoped the centre too will come to the assistance of the state Government. He said that the employees should create a healthy atmosphere which could help the Government to think of ways and means for meeting the demands of the employees. He said if the employees prolonged their strike it would added losses to the Government thereby making it difficult for it to concede the demand of the employees. On the other hand Harsh Dev blamed the Government for the cur rent crisis. He said if the Government knew that its resources will not allow to clear the arrears of the 6th Pay Commission why did the Finance Minister ,A.R.Rather, announce that the arrears will be paid. He said that employees had suggested to the Government that the arrears could be paid to them in several installments or the amount could be credited to their provident fund account adding that this gesture of the employees deserved appreciation.

Harsh wanted the Chief Minister not to have any ego problem and hence sort out the problem with the employees. He said that the employees were forced to resort to strike and it was for the Government to stop taking punitive measures against the employees who were the citizens of the state. He said that these very employees could be asked to help the Government in enhancing the annual revenue and income from various sectors so that the current financial crisis could be eased off.
