Folk presentations enthrall audience at youth fest
Nagpur University declared best in debating contest

UDHAMPUR, OCTOBER 14: At the on-going National Integration-cum- Youth Festival at Kud being organized by Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) and Department of Youth Services and Sports, young students of various universities of the country enthralled the audience with their forceful presentations of folk songs and dances of their respective states, last evening.
Attired in colourful traditional costumes, the participants kept the spectators spell bound by presenting Dogri, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Himachali, Bengali and Haryanvi folk items.
In another event “Display your Talent” contest, Nagpur University, Punjabi University Patiala and Calicut University Kerla jointly bagged first prize whileas second position was jointly shared by four Universities, which include Kashmir University, Punjab University, Chandigarh, Rajesthan University and Dr. Y. S. Parmar University, Solan (H.P).
MLA Udhampur, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia was the chief guest on the occasion while Chief Planning Officer, Udhampur, Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bandey presided over the function.
Addressing the participating youth of the camp, Mr. Mankotia said that holding of such camps have special relevance in the present scenario as they promote National integration and fellow feelings among the younger generation. He hoped that the participants of the festival would take ever lasting experiences with them and act as ambassadors of peace. He categorically called upon the youth to come forward for drug addiction free society for the prosperity of the nation.
\ The students were also taught tit-bits of mountaineering and river crossing by the trainers of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering besides a 10 kilometer trekking was also arranged for the participants as a part of the programme.
An exhibition on various items made from the waste material like broken earthen pots, dead wood, paper, seeds, bamboo etc put up by a local artist from Ramnagar, Mr. Chetan Dheman was a special attraction of the day. The youth were very much enthusiastic to see this exhibition and also learnt a lot about this art.
A debate on the topic “ Should Universities be immune to political influence” was also organized in which participants from eight participating universities took part and expressed their views on the subject.
Nagpur University was declared as first while as second and third positions were clinched by Patiala and Rajesthan Universities respectively.
The proceedings of the day started with morning prayers and yoga exercises.
