| 10 Jammu climbers selected for next round | | Monthly series of NZ Sport Climbing Competition | |

JAMMU, Apr 12: The North Zone Sport Climbing Committee has selected 10 upcoming climbers for the next round in the day-long opening round of monthly series of North Zone Sport Climbing Competition held at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here today.
Being organised to tap the hidden talent among the boys and girls from different age categories from Jammu region, the first of its kind event in Jammu resulted into selection senior men and as many sub-junior boys for the next round.
Though the event was open for both boys and girls all age groups, yet the talent could only find in men and sub-junior boys sections by the experts. In the men's categories five climbers, Vishal Sharma of University of Jammu, Akshay Sadhotra of Bishnah, Ajay Balotra and Lal Singh of J&K Police and Rahul Sharma topped the wall and were selected for the next round.
There was no candidate in the women's categories. However, in the sub junior boys category, Vikrant Raina of St.Xavier Convent School, Navjot Singh of Shiksha Niketan, Jeevan Nagar, Manish Jalhotra and Abhishek Slathia of Oriental Academy and Sahil Thakarwal of Sprawling Buds School topped the 40 ft high wall and were subsequently selected for the next round.
Earlier, Director General, Youth Services and Sports, SA Laharwal inaugurated the first round of monthly series. He was accompanied by GM Dar, Director, Youth Services and Sports, Prof Lalit Magotra, president, Dogri Sanstha and Sanjeet Khajuria, Assistant Director, Doordadhan Kendra Jammu.
Since the competition was a part of the 'Talent Search Programme' being conducted by the North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, New Delhi, only fresh candidates were allowed to compete in the competition.
However, the participants displayed lot of talent during the day long competition and the competition was a complete success.
A total of 136 boys and girls from various local schools participated in the competition.
Among others present on the occasion included Dr. CK Khajuria and Yogeshwar Kumar
general secretary and vice president Mountaineering Association of J&K respectively, Rahul Sharma and Ramesh Khajuria, Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Everester Ram Singh Slathia, Shawetica Khajuria, Amreen Kauser, OP Padha, Gopal Badyal, Narinder Singh and Sumit Khajuria.
