| Urdu deptt oganizes lecture on Daccni literature | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 12: A thought provoking lecture on "Daccni language and Literature" by Prof Majeed Bedar from Osmania University was organized by the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu on the occasion of first ever Prof Manzar Azmi Memorial Lecture, today. The function was presided over by Dean Academic Affairs (DAA) Prof RD Sharma. In his lecture Prof. Majeed Bedar explained in detail the Daccni language and discussed poetry and prose which had been written in Daccan. He informed that most of the Urdu language was already used in Daccni literature. In this connection, he described Quali-Qutab Shah as the first poet of Urdu. Bedar also quoted some of the verses of Ibn-e-Nishate, Nusrate, Wali, and Seraj who not only contributed for the development of Daccni literature but also in Urdu language and literature. In prose he discussed the contribution of Mula Wejhi, Khwaja Banda Nawaj, and Burhanudin. Prof Majeed Bedar made a difference between Daccni literature and Urdu literature besides discussing the European impact on Daccni and Urdu. In his presidential address, Prof RD Sharma lauded the efforts of Urdu department for organizing this thought provoking lecture in the memory of towering personality of Urdu Prof Manzar Azmi. Prof Sharma offered his help in organizing such type of literary activities in future. He also said that University is considering organizing a lecture in the memory of Prof Jagan Nath Azad, who wrote national anthem of Pakistan and introduced Jammu University at International level. Prof Mohammad Asdullah Wani presented a paper on the life and work of Prof. Manzar Azmi. In his welcome address, HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik said that this lecture was sanctioned by National Council for Prom-otion of Urdu Language . The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Mohammad Riyaz and Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Khursheed Hamra Siddiqui. Members of the civil society, students and scholars of the department were present on the occasion.
