Pvt para-medics for Associated Hospitals: Chib

JAMMU, Apr 12: Asserting that the Government would not allow any let up in delivering of health care system in the wake of employees strike, the Minister for Medical Education, R. S. Chib today said services of the Para-medics from some Private Para-Medical Institutes have been acquired on voluntarily basis to treat patients in GMC and Associated Hospitals in Jammu. Announcing this at a Press Conference here today, Prof. Chib said the same procedure will be put-in place in GMC Srinagar and Associated Hospitals in Srinagar also.
Prof. Chib said that the Government is committed to maintain essential services including Patient Care in the State adding that no disruption would be allowed in this regard. He said that it is the endeavor of senior doctors that Out-Patients Department, (OPDs) both at Jammu and Srinagar hospitals are fully functional and the emergency services are entirely operational right from day one of the strike.
Prof. Chib said that employees engaged on adhoc, contractual, consolidated and need basis from Hospital Development Fund (HDF) have resumed their duties and hoped that the rest of the employees would also join at the earliest.
The Minister expressed gratitude to Private Para-Medical Institutes for providing voluntarily medi-care services for patients in the hospitals. Giving details, he said that 8 Private institutes have deployed over 100 trainees of all categories including Technicians, Pharmacists, X-ray and Lab Assistant, adding that they would be asked to report to various hospitals. He said that outsourcing has been done, in order to maintain sanitation in these institutions. Responding to queries, Prof. Chib said that health services in the hospitals of rural areas are functioning properly and people are appreciating the Government for ensuring the health service smoothly. The Minister expressed gratitude to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for providing regular guidance and direction in tackling the prevailing situation arisen due to the strike of the employees. The stalemate between striking employees and government continued with the strike entering its ninth consecutive day. The strike has completely paralysed the normal functioning in all government offices, educational institutions, hospitals and civil secretariat.
Meanwhile, five employees were arrested including district president of Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Association from Kishtwar district by the police for violating various sections of Essential Services Mainte-nance Ordinance (ESMO) in Jammu region. The government has served notices to 55 employees directing them to resume their duties within 48 hours failing which they would be liable for strict action including suspension or termination of their services. Sources informed that the government has deployed Civil Defence Personnel at Government Medical College and Hospital and its allied hospitals to assist the doctors so that the general public doesn't face any problem. Reports said that working in all other government offices virtually came to standstill while the administration claimed that nearly 70 to 85 per cent employees particularly of essential public services like health, education and other related departments resumed their work in respective offices thereby indicating marginal impact of employees strike.
Reports from different parts of Jammu region maintained that the government office reported thin attendance and work was completely paralyzed. The attendants of patients in all the hospitals in Jammu city and its outskirts including Government Medical College & Hospital Jammu complained that no attention was being paid to hygiene and cleanliness and the wards were littered with refuse and dirt.
