| Rs 90 lakh to be spent on forest works in Mendhar: Altaf | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 12: Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad has said that Rs 90 lakh will be incurred on various forest works in Mendhar Assembly segment. Of which, Rs 40 lakh would be spent on plantation and conservation of degraded forests, Rs 40 lakh for soil erosion and employment in backward areas and Rs 10 lakh would be utilized by the Agro-Astrology Wing. This was stated by the Minister at a public gathering at Mankote-Mendher today. Minister also visited various areas in twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch including Palma, Kala Bandh Kotri and border area of Balnoi. Earlier, a large number of people including Gujjar and Bakerwal communities gave a warm reception to the Minister. Addressing at Balnoi village, the Minister advocated the dialogue process between India and Pakistan, adding that, this will definitely help in heralding peace and tranquility in the sub-continent besides boosting the economy of both the nations. He also emphasized the need of encouraging people-to-people contact to create a congenial atmosphere for developing amicable relationship between both the neighbors'. Minister said that Government is fully aware about the problems of Gujjar, Bakerwal and other downtrodden sections of the society, adding that, numerous steps have been taken for their upliftment. During the tour, several deputations met the Minister and apprised him about their problems and demands as well. He directed, on-the-spot, for immediate redressal of some of urgent cases. Responding to the demands of Gujjar and Bakerwals, he assured them that their genuine demands would be projected before the Government.
