| HC rejects Govt affidavit in PIL | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 12: The high court today rejected an affidavit filed by the government in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by preferred by two Srinagar lawyers. The PIL was field last week to relieve general public from the difficulties arising out of the employees strike. In response to the court notice, the government through an affidavit stated that essential commodities were provided to the public despite the employees' strike. However, the court rejected the affidavit and sought personal appearance of heads of departments supposed to provide essential services to the public. Directions have been issued to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Director Health Services, Principals government medical college Srinagar and Jammu to apprise the court of the steps taken by them to cater to the needs of the public. The government also hinted at involving the para-military forces if the strike continued for some time more. The affidavit comprising 39 pages mentions on page 10 that the government will seek assistance from para-military forces of the employees abstain from work. Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar, who is one of the petitioners, produced a witness who exposed government claims of providing essentials to the public. The government Advocate had to eat a humble pie when another petitioner Riyaz Ahmad Khan advocate produced another witness who stated that his son's school was closed owing to employee's strike.
