Fulfill commitment or quit: PDP to coalition
4/13/2010 12:58:02 AM

SUBASH MALIK
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 12: The main opposition PDP leadership has said that if the National Conference led ruling coalition "is not in a position to concede the demands of over 4.5 lakh employees it should resign."A senior PDP leader,Nizam-ud-Din Bhat said that the Government has no "moral" right to remain in office if it was not able to end the current turmoil and crisis by implementing its committment of releasing the 6th pay commission arrears to the employees.
When reminded that since the state Government was faced with severe financial crunch which had made it difficult for the ruling coalition to pay the ar rears Bhat said why did the Government promise the employees in July last that the arrears would be paid.He did not agree with the reports that the state Government failed to implement its promise because the central Government had not agreed to release additional funds. He said before making the commitment the Government should have discussed the issue with the centre and the Finance Commission.
Bhat said that the NC led coalition Government had bngled on all fronts and it was proper for it to resign. In reply to another question he ridiculed the National Conference leadership for trying to placed the responsibility of all turmoils on the shoulders of the PDP.He said first it held the PDP responsible for inciting protesters in kashmir to resort to stone pelting and now it was holding "our party" responsible for encouraging employees to prolong their strike."It is a figment of their imagination,"he asserted.
The PDP leader said that there is general public discionent against the Government and "we represent that discontent as a responsible opposition party." He explained that on all fronts, political, administrative and security fields, the NC led Government had failed because of lack of commitment and experience. He said that during the last 20 years the state has passed through a very difficult phase and if the present Government was allowed to continue it would "nullify" all the gains that had been experienced during the time Mufti Mohd.Sayeed was the Chief Minister. He claimed that the PDP-Congress coalition rule was the best possible political arrangement which had been responsible for improvement in the security scenario in Jammu and kashmir.
He suggested to the NC leadership to address the public disconent instead of finding fault with the PDP.He said "let the ruling coalition review all the problems that ar e being faced by different sections of people so that those problems were resolved and rectified." Bhat said it was unfortunate that the Government was simply playing with the destinies of over 4.5 lakh employees and another five lakh unemployed youths because the employment package and the policy that it had announced in December last had yet to bear fruits.
