| Semis line-up drawn in Inter-Deptt Cricket | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 13: Semi-finals line-up has been drawn with the entry of Departments of Urdu, Physical Education, MCA and Mathematics in the last four stages of the ongoing Inter-Department Cricket Tournament of the University of Jammu on the campus, here today.
Now, in the semi-finals, to be played on April 15, Urdu Department shall take on MCA at 8 am, followed by the second semi-final between Physical Education and Mathematics at 1 pm.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played today, Department of Mathematics trounced Department of Political Sciences by six wickets. Batting first, after winning the toss, Political Sciences set a target of 143 runs losing five wickets in the allotted 20 overs, which, in reply, Mathematics chased in 18.3 overs losing four wickets.
Paramjeet Singh was top scorer with 18-ball 20 runs including five hits to the fence while Govind and Farooq contributed 26 and 20 runs respectively. Nawaz and Sunil added 14 and 13 runs respectively. From Mathematics, Digvijay was most successful bowler with two wickets for 29 runs in four overs while Rohit Singh, Varinder and Vicky shared apiece each.
Batting second, Mathematics reached the required total in 18.3 overs with six wickets in hand. Rohit Singh played unbeaten innings of 63 (off 34 balls, 11x4) runs while Varinder (41 off 38 balls, 8x4) and Digvijay (24) were other main scorers. Ajay Kumar, Kewal and Farooq took one wicket each.
In another quarterfinal match, Department of Urdu trounced MCA by 11 runs. Urdu won the toss and decided to bat first set a target of 154 runs losing seven wickets. Arshad and Ajaz Shah were main scorers with 42 and 30 runs in their respective accounts while Mozam Khan added 13 runs to the total. From MCA, Brij Bushan, Munish and Himanshu took one wicket each.
In reply, MCA could not chase the total and bowled out for 142 runs in 19.5 overs. Munish, Himanshu and Sumit were the main scorers with 27, 17 and 16 runs in their respective accounts. From Urdu Department, Vakil Singh remained top scorer with three for 28 in four overs while Imran Shah and Ajaz Shah shared a piece each.
