| MLA Darhal condemns ESMO on employees | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 13: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Darhal Assembly Constituency Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has condemned the invoking of Essential Services Maintenance Ordinance (ESMO) on state government employees on the very first day of their strike beside arrests of union leaders as well as other employees, alleged torture by the police and harassment at the hands of the administration. In a statement issued here today, MLA Darhal said that the employees were demanding release of arrears of 6th Pay Commission, enhancement of retirement age besides fulfillment of other just and genuine demands for which the state government had already agreed. He said that the employees have not taken law and order in their hands nor do they have damaged the public property or disrupted the essential services for which they are being punished and put under purview of stringent laws. The aggressive and repressive attitude of the state government against its employees has put the general public to suffer badly, said Zufkar adding that the situation is turning bad to worse day by day and it will take an ugly turn if the government did not shun the path of confrontation with the employees. He said the employees are backbone of the state government and they should be treated honorably so that they could deliver good in the interest of general public. From the present chaos and confusion erupted due to the ongoing strike of the employees coupled with other issues it is evident that the government has totally failed on all fronts for which it has no justification to stay in power. MLA said that it is a matter of great concern that the bureaucrats and ministers are draining the public money like anything on renovation, using helicopters, luxurious and comfortable lifestyle, arranging parties, drawing exorbitant TA/DA which speaks about the seriousness of the government. Zulfkar Ali appealed to the Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister and Governor to intervene in the matter and ask Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to sort out the issue amicably and find out an acceptable solution to the problem.
