| Diwali, Id arrangements reviewed in Kathua | | DM notifies three sites for retail of fire crackers | | KATHUA, OCTOBER 14 -District Magistrate Kathua Mrs Sarita Chauhan discussed the arrangements being made for forthcoming Diwali and Id-ul-Fitr in a high level meeting of senior officers convened here today. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua Mr Charanjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner (Rev) Kathua, CMO, DIO Kathua, Executive Engineers of PHE, PDD, Assistant Director CAPD, district officers from fire services, weight and measures, civil defence, Tehsidlars and wholesale dealers of fire crackers attended the meeting. Addressing the officers, Mrs Sarita Chauhan exhorted upon the officers to ensure adequate arrangements for the conduct of incident free Diwali celebrations in the district. The DM notified three places, namely Ram Lila Ground Kathua, Canal Bank Sawan Chack and Canal College Road Kathua for retail sale of carackers with proper lay out plan as per the fire services and explosives rules. The timing for the sale of crackers has been fixed from 10 a m to 7 p m with effect from October 17 to 21, (day of Diwali). Unauthorized storage/sale of crackers at the places other than notified for the purpose shall be seriously viewed, she added. For this purpose, she constituted a team of officers with Tehsildar Kathua, Fire Services Officer and SHO Kathua to ensure that wholesale and retail of crackers must not be carried out in the places other than as notified in the licenses. Fire Services Department was directed to make adequate arrangements of fire tenders and other equipments well in advance near the sites identified for sale of crackers. In-charge civil defence was asked to make available a minimum of 10 volunteers for each identified site to meet any untoward incident and send a list of these volunteers well in advance. Mrs Chauhan asked the MC authorities to ensure cleanliness of the Kathua city especially places of public gathering well in advance. To ensure price and quality control of essential commodities. She constituted squad comprising of Assistant Director CAPD, Tehsildar Kathua as Magistrate and Inspectors of Municipal Council Kathua and Weights and Measures and asked them to conduct surprise checking of rates, quality and quantity of various commodities including mutton and furnish daily progress report in this regard.
