Vohra, administered the oath of office to Dr. Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia as 29th Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court at a function held at Raj Bhavan, here this evening. The notification of appointment of Dr. Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia as Chief Justice of the J&K High Court was read out by the Registrar General of the High Court, MK Hanjura. The First Lady, Usha Vohra, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Arvinder Singh, Ministers, Judges of the High Court, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Advocates, senior Civil, Judicial and Police officers were present at the oath ceremony. Dr. Justice Saikia, B. Sc. (Dist.), LL. M, was born on April 7, 1949. He was enrolled as an Advocate on August 9, 1974 and practiced in Subordinate Courts and the High Court at Guwahati since 1974 in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional and Service matters. He was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Guwahati High Court on November 15, 2000. He was appointed as Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court on March 7, 2009.
