| Dr Ambedkar was against Article 370: BJP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 14: The founder of the Indian Constitution Dr. Bheem Rao Ambedkar was against the incorporation of Article 370 as this was discriminatory between the people of one part of the country and rest of India. This was stated by BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas while paying tributes on 119th birthday of Dr. Ambedkar in a function held at party headquarters. Manhas claimed that Dr. Ambedkar had advocated implementation of the Indian Constitution in full in J&K and strongly opposed the grant of Special Status to the State of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 as he feared that it will sow the seeds of separatism. The BJP chief further said that Dr. Ambedkar was great in the sense because he personally not only arose from a poor family to enlighten the country but also struggled for upliftment of the poor, down-trodden (dalits), who were facing many human problems, which had crept in the Indian society because of the slavery of years. “This great personality had pain for that section of the society which was subjected to untouchbility and worked throughout his life to end this social menace,” Manhas said. He also greeted the people on the occasion of Baisakhi and expressed hope that this festival would further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and unity among the masses. Meanwhile, the Morcha state president Chaman Lal Kanathia, in his address, strongly criticised the NC-Congress coalition in the state saying that it has failed to provide benefits of the centrally-sponsored welfare schemes to the real deserving people, including the SCs. The party MLA, Gharu Ram Bhagat, while referring to the recently adopted Inter-district Recruitment Bill, alleged that if the BJP and other nationalists would not have put a strong resistance, the NC and other likes were bent upon to deprive the SCs of 8 per cent reservation in all districts of the state.
