| PDP condemn ‘forced drowning’ of youth in Valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Apr 14: People's Democratic Party today condemned the alleged forced drowning of an 11th standard student at Sopore in north Kashmir yesterday. Expressing grief and shock over the killing of two minors in a mysterious blast in Kupwara, PDP youth wing president Bashir Assad said it was very unfortunate that the whole border area had changed into mine field and charged the casual approach of government to protect the people. In a statement issued here, he said on the one hand the state government had been seeking cooperation from people for restoring normalcy while on the other hand they were targeting innocent people, especially the teenagers. Assad alleged that the youth was singled out for brutal murder by forcing him to jump into the river. Such attitude would vitiate the atmosphere further that seemed beyond repair, he threatened. The PDP leader said the government, in fact, had failed to get any clue to the anger of youth and the reason why they were agitating. Demanding stern action against the perpetrators of Sopore incident Assad said the government must understand the delicate nature of governance in the state as its failure to handle routine things had the potential of causing large scale alienation and leading to crisis situations. He said the government in its arrogance seemed to be unable to do anything right.
