| Tehsildar's ill wife burns herself to death | | | JAMMU: Wife of Tehsildar (relief) Chandermani, said to be suffering from acute depression, allegedly committed suicide by burning herself to death at their residence at Akhnoor Tuesday.
Police sources said Krishna Devi (55) was suffering from acute depression for the past some time.
Though her tehsildar husband took her to several doctors for her treatment, she could not be cured and grew weaker with the passage of every day, the sources added.
Yesterday, she allegedly poured kersene oil on her and set herself ablaze. Sources said coming to her rescue, the family members later extinguished the fire and evacuated her to the Government Medical College Hospital where she died today.
She had sustained severe burn injuries. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to her family members for last rites.
Police had registered a case in this connection under section 174 of CrPC.
In another incident, Bharti of Krishna Nagar was admitted to the GMC Hospital with severe burns. Her condition was stated to be critical.
