| Urdu women, Statistics men win chess titles | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 15: Department of Urdu bagged women's title while the men's final was won by Department of Statistics in the Inter-Department Chess Tournament of University of Jammu held at Gymnasium Hall on the campus, here today.
In the women's final, Department of Urdu trounced Department of Psychology 2-0. While Gazala Amin defeated Navnidhika Sharma, Farhana Khan registered win over Vritti Sharma to power their team to an easy win. The men's chess title went to Department of Statistics, who beat Department of Urdu 2-0. Rajesh Kumar beat Aftab Ahmed, while Ravi Kumar trounced Ravi Kumar Choudhary to make it a straight game win.
Finals were officiated by Ravish Vaid, Meenakshi Sharma, Sunaina Sharma and Rakesh Verma.
VOLLEYBALL: In inter-department volleyball tournament, only match played today was won by Department of Law beating Department of Urdu in straight sets. Winning the first close set 25-21, Law spikers made it an easy sailing in the second 25-09. With today's win, Law Department moved into the next round of the competition.
Meanwhile, two other scheduled matches ended in walkovers. While Department of Physical Education got walkover Department of Punjabi, The Business School awarded walkover Department of Geography.
Volleyball matches were officiated by Dr Rajinder Lal, Shashi Sharma, Alyas, Shouqat Hussain Shah, Arti Sharma, Madhuri Jamwal and Shazia.
