| Academy embarks on 'cultural dialogue' across India | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 15: In a move that will popularise state culture at the national level, the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has decided to observe year 2010 as the year of "Cultural Dialogue". "We have decided to do this so as to facilitate interaction between our state and its counterparts across India," informed Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Zafar Iqbal Manhas, adding, "this would educate the people of the country about the rich cultural diversity and pluralism of the state". He was speaking at Lucknow in connection with a cultural event. Elaborating the concept, Zafar said that as part of the exercise the Cultural Academy had already organised cultural programmes at places like Delhi and Pune. "After performing at Pune and Delhi, our troupe is now in Lucknow for promotion of indigenous culture of the state," Zafar said. Interestingly, over the past couple of months the State Cultural Academy had organised several cultural programmes in select cities of the country as part of its "cultural dialogue programme". "Through our cultural dialogue programme we are trying to send out a message of peace and love across India," the Secretary said. Commenting about the cultural event held at Lucknow, Zafar informed that it was one of the most successful programmes the Academy had organised in recent times. "The fact that hundreds of people witnessed our event at Lucknow shows that we have been able to achieve our objectives," Zafar said The programme which took place at Lucknow was organised by State Cultural Academy in collaboration with Ashiana Parivar Lucknow. Beginning late in the evening under the glittering lights at Dr Yessy Panday Park, the event attracted audience in hordes. Round about 20 artists performed at Lucknow amidst audience jubilation, clapping and dance. Dr Danesh Sharma, the Mayor of Lucknow was the chief guest on the occasion while Secretary Academy was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Sharma heaped praises on the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for organising what he described as "a colourful programme" in his city. "It is really a matter of pride that the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy organised such a colourful programme at Lucknow," Sharma said, adding, "Hopefully, the city would get another chance to see such performances in future also". Speaking in his capacity as the guest of honour, Secretary Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that Jammu and Kashmir was a unique state on account of what he called its "cultural diversity and plurality". "Ours is a unique state in terms of diversity of culture and pluralism. And we would leave no stone unturned in showcasing this diversity across the country in times to come," Zafar informed.
