| Zargar for increased production to realize potential of Rabi | | | JAMMU, OCTOBER 14- Stressing for increased production, productivity and enhancement of the seed replacement rates to realize the full potential of different Rabi crops, Minister for Agriculture Mr Abdul Aziz Zargar exhorted upon for close coordination between the SKUAST Jammu and the department of agriculture for mutual sharing of the feed backs to benefit the farming community. The Minister was speaking at Rabi Conference 2006-07 for Jammu Division organized by the Department of Agriculture here today. The Minister of State for Agriculture Mr Ajaz Ahmed Khan was also present on the occasion. Vice Chancellor SKUAST Prof Nagendra Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr Parmod Jain, Principal Secretary Agriculture Mr S. S Sahni, Secretary Agriculture Mr K B Jandial, Director Agriculture Mr M. Farooq Hakak, Director Research Mr A K Bakshi, Director Extension Mr Pramod Baru and Joint Registrar Cooperative Mr Bashir Ahmed were also present. The Minister while outing the perspectives of Central Government plans for development of agriculture and stressed hard to projectize the locations specific priorities to uplift the farming community exploring specialties of the areas. He informed that top level hierarchy from Prime Minister’s level are keen to raise the growth rate of agriculture to 4 percent which will facilitate the achievements 10 percent annual growth rate. During in depth iterations over the critical required issues the Ministers also stressed for effective and efficient area oriented strategies for which advance perspective planning is required so that agricultural productions and objectives earmarked are achieved in a real way as it is the need of the hour to switch over from traditional low profitable agriculture to the highly value added agriculture products by diversification in this field. Mr Khan emphasized the need for zonal planning of different agro climatic zones for various crops to yield sizeable market surplus. He called upon the officers and scientists to move to the remotest areas for dissemination of latest technology and welfare of farmers in these areas. He also advised for close rapport with marketing agencies so that our producers get remunerative prices. He asked scientists and officers of concerned wings to work closed coordination for ensuring timely completion of pending projects and maximizing benefit of farming community. While giving detailed achievements in a comparative manners, the Director Agriculture Mr M Farooq Hakak apprised the chair about the significant achievements and bottlenecks being faced by the department. They year wise figures on seeds, fertilizers and allied inputs have been given at a glance. Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India was also perspectives the plan for development of agriculture of central government side. Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu Prof Nagendera Sharma gave presentation on research related issues. Principal Secretary Agriculture Mr s. S Sahni stressed for need based technology transfer.
