| Tharoor meets Sonia, other Congress leaders to find a way out of IPL row | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, APR 15: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He also saw other senior party leaders who have been trying to evolve a strategy to face Opposition’s belligerence over a host of issues, including $333 million Kochi IPL cricket team deal because of the involvement of Minister’s friend Sunanda Pushkar. Tharoor also reportedly met Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister AK Antony as parliament resumed its Budget session today after the end of recess. After these meetings Tharoor is likely to face Opposition demand for his resignation himself when this is raised by Opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha. In the meantime, the Congress has officially said that a decision regarding the Opposition demand for sacking Tharoor would be taken only after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returns from his visit to US and Brazil. Prime Minister is expected to come back to the Capital by the weekend. Both BJP and Left parties have been demanding dismissal of Tharoor in the wake of allegations that his friend Pushkar, a businesswoman in Dubai whose family hails from Jammu, was given a 19 percent free stake in the Kochi IPL team franchise which comes to a staggering Rs 70 crores.
