| Politics hots up over tehsil office gate | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RS PURA, Apr 15: The two arch rivals -- BJP and Congress -- were today up in arms against each other to take credit for the reopening of the tehsil office's second gate closed two years back.
As the agitated supporters of the two parties gathered outside the tehsil office, police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse them.
The tehsil office has two gates, facing two different markets in the town. One gate was closed two years back allegedly on the directions of SDM Sheetal Nanda.
With Nanda's transfer, Ashwani Kumar Khajuria joined as new SDM of RS Pura. After he assured a BJP deputation that the gate would be opened soon, tension erupted in the town with Congress supporters also thronging the SDM office to take claim for the reopening of the closed gate.
BJP workers, however, alleged that the gate was closed at the behest of local Congress leaders.
The Congress workers, however, said the closed gate was being reopened on the intervention of Raman Bhalla and R S Chib, both ministers.
Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse them after there were heated exchanges between them.
