Sopore remains on boil

JAMMU: For the third consecutive day Sopore witnessed violent clashes between stone pelting youth and the police Thursday. The clashes left ten persons including four police men wounded.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 were strictly imposed in the town. However, notwithstanding the restrictions the youth engaged the police and the CRPF in ding dong battles at several places in the town.
The stone pelting youth raised slogans against the police and the CRPF and demanded stern action against the erring men in uniform who according to them forced Zubair to jump into Jehlum. Zubair, a 17-year-old-student was consumed by the river.
Meanwhile, the town observed total strike. The town presented a ghost look as all shops and educational institutions remained closed. Traffic was off the roads.
Mirwaiz Hurriyat in a strong worded statement condemned the killing. "This must serve as eye opener to the world community", he said.
Jama't-e-Islami also condemned the killing. Dukhtaran-e-Millat while condemning the `murder' expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
