| J&K to introduce high security number plates soon: Akhoon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Apr 16: Minister for Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon today urged the Centre to provide liberal financial support for establishing Hi-Tech Driving Training Institutes to train drivers for hilly terrain, creating Quick Rescue Teams (QRT) for accident prone areas and Trauma Centers in the state.
Speaking at the 33rd meeting of the Transport Development Council, held at Parliament House, New Delhi today, Akhoon enjoined upon the Union Ministry for Surface Transport to also create Transport Welfare Fund besides provision of financial assistance for introducing Smart Card System in the state.
The Transport Development Council meeting was chaired by the Union Minister for Transport, Kamal Nath and was attended by the concerned Transport Ministers of all the states of the country.
During the Transport Development Council, two landmark resolutions were adopted and signed by the Transport Ministers of various states, wherein all the Ministers accepted the recommendations of the Empowered Committee to implement the new Composite Fee Regime of Rs 15000 per annum per truck for National Permit and authorized Ministry of Road Transport and Highways , Government of India to create a Common National Permit Account(CNPA) for the purpose of collection new composite fee and subsequent disbursement thereof among the State.
The second agenda item discussed during the Transport Development Council related to National Road Safety Policy, which was endorsed by the states attending the meeting.
Akhoon also suggested that union government should create Transport Welfare Fund and stressed upon to provide adequate funds for the introduction of Smart Card System.
Akhoon informed the House that the high security number plates shall be introduced shortly in J&K. In this regard, two officers each from Finance and Transport Department will visit Goa and Meghalaya shortly to study the procurement of such number plates.
