J&K seeks Rs 220 Cr from Centre for another 3 months ration to drought hit people: Saroori

KISHTWAR, Apr 16:

State government has approached the centre to release Rs 220 crore for arranging free ration for another three month among the drought hit families of the state.

Stating this while addressing series of public meetings at Patimohall, Mughal Maidan and Sigdi villages in Kishtwar district, Minister for R&B, GM Saroori said that these families have already been provided 3 month free ration, as part of the measures to provide some succour to the people hit by natural calamities..

Saroori said that the Government is aware of the problems of the drought hit families of the erstwhile district Doda, adding free ration has already been distributed among drought hit families for three months. He said that, in view of the continued dry spell in the state and increased demand for ration, the J&K government has requested the Centre to provide special financial assistance for ensuring supply of free ration to drought hit families for further three months.

Minister said that certain major revenue villages would be splitted into small revenue villages besides creating new blocks and Niabats to ease the public problems. He said that a proposal has been forwarded to the Centre for allotment of additional quota for construction of shelter shed, under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY), so that all deserving families could be brought under this scheme.

Saroori said that education, a basic need for development, is high on the agenda of the government, adding that 3 schools in Inderwal constituency would be developed as Model Schools.

Minister announced that a Dak Bungalow would be constructed in Sigdi, Kishtwar and released Rs 10 lac for the purpose.

Saroori also visited KGBV, Mughal Maidan and interacted with the children and the management of the organization. He distributed Rs 80,000 among 83 students, belonging to Schedule Tribe community.

Earlier, the Minister paid surprise inspection of Dachan Marwah road. He released Rs. 25 lac for widening the road at certain points. While reviewing progress on Banderkote-Dangdoru road, coming up at a cost of Rs 13 crore, Saroori asked the engineers and executing agencies to ensure completion of Patimohal- Ikhalla road by mid May this year and tendering process of Ikhalla-Dangdooru stretch within this week. He was informed that Rs 2 crore has been expended on the project so far. Minister said that a foot suspension bridge at Karoor would also be constructed shortly.
