| Taj visits Tawi, inspects flood protection works, beautification plan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 16: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Mohi ud Din today visited the River Tawi in Jammu city and took stock of the flood protection works being undertaken by the Irrigation & Flood Control Department there.
He also visited the banks of the river at many places to oversee the beautification plan being taken in hand.
Minister visited Nikki Tawi, Karnal chak, barrage site, Bagwati Nagar and adjoining areas.
Taj visited the bunds, retaining walls and other protection mechanism being put in place by the Department to ward off the effect of floods in the river.
He also inspected the beautification drive being undertaken by the Department under which a constant water level would be maintained in the river by constructing barrages and making it fit for navigation.
It may be recalled that the Minister yesterday at an officers meeting had directed the engineers of Irrigation & Flood Control to utilize the additional water available in Tawi this summer to bring more areas under irrigation. He had also directed pacing up of remaining works of flood protection on Tawi banks.
Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Jammu, BR Dogra, Superintending engineer, Hydraulic (Jammu city), KK Gupta and other officers accompanied the Minister during the visit. |
