| Katra-Udhampur rail track to be completed by Dec 2012: Muniyappa | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 16: Union Minister of State for Railways, K H Muniyappa today said the much-awaited Katra-Udhampur track, a part of connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the country through rail link project, would be completed by December 2012. Talking to the media persons at Jammu Railway Station, the Union Minister, who along with his family, was returning home after visiting the holy shrine of Goddess Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra, claimed, "the railway station at Katra is nearing completion while work on tunnels on this section is going on in full swing." Muniyappa informed that Jammu railway authorities had projected a demand for having two more platforms and another waiting room at the Railway station. "The authorities have been asked to send a comprehensive proposal and we would look into it," he said. In reply to another question regarding recent incident of a railway track being blown up by militants in Kashmir, the Union Minister said that Railway Protection Force (PRF), Government Railway Police and state government were looking into the incident and all details would be received soon." "Though the Railway can't act directly, yet it has also taken up the matter with Home Ministry. The safety of Railways' properties and passengers is top priority of our Ministry and in this context enough measures have already been initiated by the UPA government," he asserted. Interestingly, the Union Minister addressed the media persons amid total mismanagement and chaos at Platform one on Jammu Railway Station. The media had to wait for about one hour at the Railway Station while Pooja Express left Jammu Railway Station about one hour late behind its scheduled departure time of 6.15 p.m.
