| Drama by NC, PDP, another assault on people’s freedom: Bhim | | |
Jammu, April 16: The decision of the Centre to impose ban on mobile phone SMS in J&K evoked prompt and strong reaction from the political parties with opposition highly critical about the move, which was later revoked. Terming decision of the government to impose andlater revoke ban on SMS of mobile phones as drama to befool the gullible masses of the State, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that this drama was enacted by the National Conference led coalition only just to improve its image. "This regime has lost its credibility so government has been enacting such dramas to befool the people", PDP spokesman said while reacting to imposition of ban on SMS and later revocation of the same decisionwithin minutes. Since its formation this regime has done nothing to address aspirations of the people. "The government seems to be more concerned about adopting tactics to divert attentions of the people towards its failure on all fronts", spokesman said and added that today's drama was also part of this tactic. "It is strange that Chief Minister on the one hand claiming that ban was imposed without his knowledge and within minutes he claimed that ban has revoked due to his protest", said party spokesman and smelt a gimmick in the whole episode just to hoodwink the people. The entire drama was enacted with the connivance of the state government, the spokesman said and expressed surprise that instead of taking some concrete steps to address grievances of the people, this regime has been indulged in such cheap activities to befool the people. PDP spokesman, while condemning such tactics of this dispensation, suggested the government to realize the ground situation and address grievances of the people seriously rather than enacting such dramas. Prof. Bhim Singh Chairman JKNPP and Member of National Integration Council today reacted strongly against another assault on the freedom of expression and communication of the common man and woman by imposing another ban on SMS in Jammu and Kashmir alone. The Panthers Party Supremo urged Prime Minister who is touring abroad to rein in his Ministers who he alleged have been indulging in anti-constitutional and undemocratic misuse of power. Prof. Bhim Singh described the ban of SMS service a grave invasion on human right by the Union Home Minister exercising his arrogance via Ministry of communication. Prof. Bhim Singh said that this is the contempt of Supreme Court because the Supreme Court had expressed its clear mind on the ban on Prepaid mobile phone in J&K. He said the Union Home Minister withdrew the ban order on the Prepaid mobile phone when the case came for final hearing in a petition file by Prof. Bhim Singh. Prof. Bhim Singh said that no minister has any power to issue such a nasty order without the approval of the Cabinet under Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister away and the Union Home Minister has tried to hijack power by demonstrating through this ban in J&K. Prof. Bhim Singh said that if the people in J&K so choose he shall move the Supreme Court for contempt against the minister concern.
