| ‘Wamiq was killed in cold blood’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 16: Wamiq Farooq's case took a new turn Friday when two eyewitnesses deposed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar and accused a police officer of murdering the youth in cold blood. Wamiq Farooq, a student of 11th standard got killed on January 31 when a police officer allegedly fired a tear smoke shell near Bohri Kadal in Down Town Srinagar at him. The killing evoked massive demonstrations across Kashmir. Hundreds of persons including scores of police men sustained injuries in clashes that lasted a week. The government ordered an enquiry but to the dismay of the people, the enquiry dubbed Wamiq as a stone pelter. The slain youth's parents preferred a complaint in the court of CJM. Shabir Ahmad Khan and Ghulam Ahmad Bhat of Bohri Kadal appeared in the court and got their statements recorded. The duo told the court that Wamiq was killed in cold blood by a police officer. "When the fatal tear smoke shell was fired, no stone pelting was going on in the area", they said. The duo said that they asked the police officer why ha had killed an innocent boy. "He ignored us and talked to somebody on his cell phone. The recording of the conversation can be obtained from the telecom authorities", they said.
