JAMMU, Apr 16: In a U-turn to his earlier stance of not returning to state politics, Union Health Minister and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's of late tactics are spurring otherwise hints, the reason however, may best been left to be weighed only by the new developments in his party cadre.
Sources said that Azad is reaching tomorrow at Shangus area of Anantnag district to pay tributes to former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mohammad Maqbool Dar on his second death anniversary, adding his visit is being watched as a first intimation towards some "indecent alliance" the Congress stalwart is anticipating from its earlier collaborator, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
And if the rumor mills are to be believed, enough has been settled between the two-old allies for a new combination likely to surface soon on the state polity.
"Azad, who had categorically ruled out his return to state politics on November 5, 2009, is all set to create a big political debate in Jammu and Kashmir but for certain wrong reasons as far as interests of ruling National Conference and Congress coalition are concerned. He has invented a new modus-operandi to demean his political rivals by entering into purported alliance with the PDP," insiders in Congress party observed.
"What more embarrassing for Congress cadre is that the former Chief Minister is getting more inclined towards the PDP, with whom he had coalition government till July 2008," they said.
They added, "Azad would address a public gathering at Shangus, which is supposed to the bastion of the PDP. The PDP leadership is planned to extend its 'goodwill gesture' towards its former partner and would send its workers in support of Azad's rally which, somewhat, an indicator for an indecent alliance with PDP which is not an healthy sign for ruling National Conference led coalition in the State."
It may be recalled that Azad had also recently rejected the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's proposal of amnesty to PoK youth, saying this move could be fraught with possible dangers and it could be yet another way of "facilitating infiltration".
"Taking into consideration the differences between Azad and Omar, the PDP, in its usual modus-operandi, doesn't want to lose this opportunity to intensify its offensive against the ruling dispensation," sources averred.
