4/17/2010 11:29:03 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 17: Jammu Joint Students' Federation (JJSF) held a protest demonstration against the state and central governments besides Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Chairman and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah. The protest was led by State Vice President JJSF Partap Singh Jamwal. Addressing the protesters, Jamwal said that the Vice Chancellor (VC) for Central University in Kashmir province was appointed where as no VC for CU in Jammu province has been announced so far.
Jamwal said that most of the universities in the state including University of Jammu, Kashmir University, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Sher-e-Kashmir University for Agriculture Sciences, Jammu have VCs from outside the state. Jamwal pointed out that why the government is not appointing the VC for CU in Jammu and why inordinate delay is being made in announcing the name for the post. Jamwal claimed that people of Jammu region want the VC for CU, Jammu belonging to Jammu region only. JJSF warned if our demands will be neglected or ignored by the government and if it tries to play with sentiments of Jammuites adding that if discrimination with Jammu division goes on then the student community of the region would not hesitate to take extreme steps. JJSF activists also staged a protest demonstration against JKCA Chairman and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah for organising a Cricket tournament at GGM Science College ground near the boys' hostel, Protesting students shouted slogans against Farooq Abdullah and torched his effigy. They said that Dr Farooq Abdullah knew it very well that the students are either appearing or preparing for undergraduate exams but holding a cricket tourney in GGM Science College ground means lot of nuisance as the big loud speakers are being used to make announcements. The protesting students said that during examination such a disturbance will destroy the concentration of students due to which they cannot have comfortable study in hostel rooms. Other JJSF leaders who were present in protest are Sahil Choudhary (President GGM Science College), Sanjay Sharma, Abhay Sharma, Devinder Singh, Sahil, Vijay Singh Kotach, Ashwani Sharma, Dalip Singh Rana, Raman Choudhary and Lovely Gupta.
