| SC/ST Retired Employees demand reservation in toto | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 17: Welcoming the step of state government for safe guarding the interest of SC community in keeping them out of the purview of the recently passed act for ban on the inter district/ inter province Recruitment, All J&K SC/ST Retired Employees Forum stated that ST community should also be exempted under the said act and appealed to the state government to take necessary measures in this regard for the benefit of these reserved categories. In a media interaction held here today, president of the Forum Sewa Dass Digra said that the government has introduced a good scheme for regularization of thousands of youth engaged as contract workers/employees, those on Rehbar-e-pattern, Anganwari workers but no consideration had been provided for reservation to SCs and STs, which was violation of rules laid down in Act of 2004. The Reservation to SC/ ST has been neglected both at the time of their initial engagement and also now at the time of their regularization. Digra further castigated the government for increasing the eligibility in the pre-10+2 to 50 percent along with 80 percent attendance. This had deprived thousands of students from the benefit of scholarship. The Forum strongly appeals the government to altogether drop the above criteria and only pass marks percentage are taken as eligibility criteria to save the poor students from this injustice. Further, for post 10+2 scholarships, the income slab for SC community is low as compared to other reserved categories, which is discrimination with them. The Forum urges the government to implement a uniform income slab of up to Rupees 3 lakh per annum in view of increase of pay under 6th Pay commission. The SRO 294, though replaced by SRO 144, is still active and enforced in all the selection processes. In selection processes, SRO 294 is referred whereas SRO 144 is altogether missing. The selection agencies/ Educational Institutions be directed to stop this practice and the SC/ST certificate issued under any SRO shall be acceptable.
