| Declare India a Hindu nation: Togadia | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 17: Demanding amendments in the Constitution to declare India a Hindu nation, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) International general secretary Praveen Togadia today said that it is pre-requisite for the country to become a world power. Addressing a meeting here, the VHP leader who arrived in Jammu for three-day-long visit said, "India should be declared as Hindu country as it is the only way to solve the problems being faced by the Indians. Till India does not become a Hindu nation, it will not become a world power." Togadia said that while bringing all political parties under an ambit of one religion would relieve them of their own affiliations and would collectively work for one cause only. He said that it does not mean the minorities will lose the right to live in the country, but in turn they will feel safer. Giving example, he said that till Kashmir was ruled by Dogras, Hindus were safe, but when the power was transferred to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, they were slowly forced to leave the valley with major chunk of the Hindus driven out in 1989. He said that Hindus are the main victim of the militancy and apart from facing exodus, their rights are being trampled by the government which is making every effort to appease the separatist forces. While speaking on the Hindu system of "New India", Togadia elaborated on the genetically observation of the community evolution through ages as the only religion accepted on the world forum also. Togadia is likely to visit, Kathua, Udhampur, Akhnooor, Reasi and Katra in his three-day's stay while holding awareness progarmme in various districts. Sources said that it is expected that he will also meet the refugee leaders to reorient their approach to deal with the government policy.
