J&K moving towards No 1 in primary healthcare: Sham

Jammu, April 17:- Asserting that providing quality healthcare facilities to the people of the State is on high agenda of the Government, the Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma has said that a number of innovative and exemplary steps have been taken by the Government during the past 15 months for improving medicare facilities across the State.
Sharma said that the measures taken by the coalition Government have started showing tangible results on ground and people are acknowledging the change.
He sought support of each individual in the Health Department to further improve the facilities.
The Minister was reviewing the progress of the Health Department for the last quarter of the year 2009-10 at a meeting held here today.
Laying stress on creating massive awareness about the programmes and facilities available in various health institutions under different schemes across the State, the Minister directed all heads of the institutions to hold mega awareness camps with the involvement of locals at different places so that people can avail the benefits of these programmes and also avoid visiting outside the State to receive specialized treatments which are easily available in our State.
Lauding the good work of some doctors and para-medical staff, the Minister said that best performers will be suitably rewarded very shortly, adding that the Government has already decided to acknowledge the excellent work of hardworking employees of the Department and they will be honoured very soon. He said there is always scope for the improvement and we all have to work hard and make collective efforts to make Jammu and Kashmir as No. 1 in the healthcare sector, Sharma maintained.
Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr. R.K.Jerath, Director Family Welfare and NRHM, Dr. Kulbushan Pandotra, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organization, Satish Gupta, Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents and other officers of Health Department of Jammu Division were present in the meeting.
