UCC wins opening tie in JKCA T20 Premier League

JAMMU, Apr 17: United Cricket Club (UCC) Udhampur won the inaugural match of the Ist JKCA Twenty20 Premier League Tournament beating Challenger Cricket Club by a margin of 39 runs at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, UCC set a target of 138 runs for the loss of five wickets, which, in reply, Challenger could not chase and could score 99 runs losing nine wickets.
Rahul was top scorer with unbeaten 53 (off 37 balls, 5x4, 1x6) while Pankaj contributed 22 runs. From Challenger, Vijay, Gurvinder and Madan share one wicket each.
Batting second, Challenger Club exhausted their quota of 20 overs for 99 runs for nine. Suresh was highest scorer with 25 runs, followed by Sumit and Sanjeev, who contributed 17 and 15 runs respectively. Paramjeet Singh was most successful bowler with four wickets from UCC while Rahul and Sunil took one each.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by the president of JKCA, Dr Farooq Abdullah. Speaking to the gathering of JKCA members and teams playing the opening match, Dr Abdullah said, "The JKCA is looking into the possibilities of hosting at least one IPL match next year in Jammu and Kashmir. We are making efforts to raise the required infrastructure in Jammu and Srinagar to host the mega event."
He was accompanied by the chairman, working president and vice-chairman of JKCA Jammu wing. In another match of the day, Friend Cricket Club, Ghat Doda trounced Kathua Blues Cricket Club by five wickets. Batting first, Kathua Blues set a target of 156 runs for the loss of six wickets which Doda Club chased for the loss of five wickets.
Data Sher Singh Club wins at MA Stadium
In another match of the day, Data Sher Singh Club defeated Luxmi Cricket Club by four wickets at MA Stadium, here today. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Luxmi Cricket Club made 104 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Karan made 37 while Jatin contributed 14 runs. From Data Sher Singh Club, Sumesh Padha and Jaswant Singh shared two wickets each while Amti Saini, Amarpreet Singh and Ashok shared apiece each
In reply, Data Sher Singh Club overhauled the opponent total in 18.2 for the loss of six wickets. Deepak and Satish Saini were main contributors. Deepak was top scorer from winners Data Sher Singh with 23 runs in his account while Satish Saini contributed 19. Digvijay Singh played unbeaten innings. From Laxmi Club, Rupinder bagged three wickets for 19 runs.
