| DGP declares open Martyrs' T20 tourney | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 17: Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda today declared open the Ist Martyrs' Memorial Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police at Parade ground, here. Inaugurating the event, the DGP played a couple of deliveries on the matting wicket to add colours to the opening function. Speaking on the occasion, Khoda expressed happiness over Jammu Police conducting the event in memory of those policemen who have sacrificed their life for the integrity of the country. Earlier, Inspector General of Police, Ashok Gupta welcomed the distinguished gathering and presented a detailed report of the event. The presence of `cheer girls', to entertain the crowd, surprised one and all present in the opening function. After every boundary is hit by the batsman, there was song and dance on a specially erected stage near the commentary box. An effort was made to make the event look alike the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The opening match of the tournament played between Chief Minister XI and PDD XI which latter won. However, to the surprise of the BCCI qualified umpire, Sudhir Singh, the Chief Minister XI led by Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul fielded a 13-member team after PDD XI won the toss and decided to bat first.
