| Stadium in Jammu: Lack of coordination in JKCA | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 17: The way top office bearer in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) giving different statements in the public over international standard cricket stadium in Jammu, it seems that there is sheer lack of coordination among them. Aimed at building infrastructure and holding international events in the state, these statements made time to time lead to confusion among the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those associated with the game of cricket. Such `irresponsible’ and `false’ promises on part of those holding responsible positions in the Association, earning a bad name to the gentleman’s game of cricket. While the JKCA president and Union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah said today that an IPL match shall be hosted at the proposed stadium site somewhere in Bajalta in the outskirts of the city, his other colleagues speak otherwise contradicting his stand. Dr Farooq was speaking to the media on the inaugural of Jammu and Kashmir Premier League (JKPL) T20 Tournament at GGM Science College hostel ground, here today He further disclosed that a a meeting is already fixed by the JKCA with the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah on April 21 to take possession of the land from government. “The JKCA will go by the idea of constructing a stadium in Bajalta and hopefully an IPL match shall be played at proposed site. We will be discussing the transfer of land with the CM on Wednesday (April 21),” he said. If, Dr Farooq is to be believed, the stadium will be ready for holding international matches within a year. The statement from the president was quite contrary to the disclosures made by the JKCA chairman and close associate of Dr Abdullah, Mohd Aslam Goni saying that the guidelines issued by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) do not permit purchase of government land for building infrastructure. Goni, who was speaking to the media to announce the launch of league T20 in the recently, went to the extend saying that the stadium should be near to the airport whereas the site being finalized by Dr Abdullah is far from the Jammu airport. Furthermore, endorsing the statement made by chairman, the JKCA treasurer, Ahsan Mirza, addressing the media in Srinagar on April 11 said, “We are always ready to start work on new stadiums in Jammu and Srinagar but the problem is land. We don’t want land from government. In Jammu we have almost selected the land and next few days deal will be finalized.”
