| J&K to host an IPL match next year: Farooq | | | Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir will surely host the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season IV match next year, Union Minister and states Cricket Association president Farooq Abdullah today said. Hopeful of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) having its own stadium exclusively for cricket, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and JKCA president said the state would definitely host one of the matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) here next year. The J&K will soon have an exclusive cricket stadium and we are sure that by next year we will be capable of hosting one of the IPL matches in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Abdullah told reporters after inaugurating the Jammu and Kashmir Premier League (JKPL) this morning here at the GGM Science College ground. The JKCA president said land for cricket stadium has been identified in the city outskirts and in couple of days, the members would be meeting the Chief Minister to discuss the proposal. The land has been identified and finalized in Bajalta area and I am sure that next year IPL match will be hosted at the newly constructed stadium, the JKCA chief added. On Shashi Tharoor-Lalit Modi controversy, Dr Abdullah said the situation calls for a major role of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to settle down the issue. IPLs decision on Modi-Tharoor will be finalised on April 23 in a meeting called only to discuss the issue, Dr Farooq said, asserting that Mr Modi has contributed a lot in Indian cricket, so there is question of sidelining him. The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said termed the IPL as a platform to spot the cricketing talent in the country. IPL is an opportunity for the cricketers, who are not spotted despite being an outstanding performers and we hope that in the next IPL season, more teams will be a part of the show, he said. The JKPL is also being organised on the pattern of IPL to promote local players and find out the hidden talent, JKCA president further said, adding the boys selected during the JKPL tournament will be representing the state.
