| ASI among four suspended for lapse in CM security | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 17: The Friday incident of an ex-ultra's wife jumping in front of chief minister Omar Abdullah's cavalcade inside the "high security" civil secretariate today took its toll of four cops, including an assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI), for lapse in security. The four police personnel were placed under suspension pending inquiry against them, police sources said. It was not only security lapse, there were several other things which needed to be probed as regards the incident, the sources added. Sources said as Omar was in the list of highly protected persons in the state, it surprised senior security officers as to how an ex-militant, his wife and children managed to breach the security. No one, except security personnel, were allowed to be present in the close vicinity of the CM's route inside the secretariate, the sources added. The suspended staff was deployed in the road lining portion of the Omar's route. A surrendered militant along with his wife and children last evening had tried to stop the CM's motorcade when he was leaving the secretariate. As a goodwill gesture, Omar had, however, brought them to his residence in his official vehicle and heard their grievances. The surrendered militant, who is presently living in Jammu city with his family, had received arms training in Pakistan and had laid down his arms in 1990 at Darhal in Rajouri district. |
