| Stringent steps to curb female feticide : Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 18: Cautioning women against female feticide, the Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma said that Government will initiate more stringent steps to curb this inhuman practice. He sought help of the entire society to keep a check on this practice to maintain proper ratio of gender which was constantly unbalancing. He further reiterated the commitment of the Coalition Government to empower women folk enabling them to contribute appropriately for the development and prosperity of the society. Women have played a vital role in every field and brought laurels for the country, said Sharma. The Minister said that UPA Government at the Centre has already ensured passage of Women's Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha and efforts are on to get the same through in the Lok Sabha too. After the passage of the said Bill, women will automatically get empowered and they will have their 33 per cent share in every field of activity, said Sharma. The Minister was addressing a one-day women's seminar organized by MLA, Indu Pawar at village Dhateryal in Marh Block here today. Appreciating the efforts of Indu Pawar for the upliftment of women folk, especially the poor and destitute, Sharma said that she is always in the forefront to raise the voice of the needy at different platforms. He thanked the party leadership for electing such hardworking and honest candidates who are working tirelessly for the cause of downtrodden. Responding to the public demand, the Minister announced that Public Health Centre, Marh, shall henceforth function 24x7 and provide improved healthcare services to the people of this area. He said that more manpower will be provided to the hospital to cater to the enhanced load of the patients, he added. On the occasion, Sharma distributed two cheques amounting to rupees ten thousand each as financial assistance among widows, besides scholarship among four orphan students. The financial aid was provided by the Central Bank of India as a goodwill gesture with the efforts of Indu Pawar. Indu Pawar also addressed the gathering and pledged to work hard for the upliftment of women folk and awakening them for their rights. She said that women will work with close coordination with Government for arranging necessary assistance for the distressed lot under different schemes of Social Welfare Department. Senior Manager, Central Bank of India, H. B. Johari and a large number of women and prominent citizens of the area were present on the occasion.
