| Jaise ko Taisa’ – a new play in Hindi staged by Natrang | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 18: A new Hindi play ‘Jaise Ko Taisa’ was staged here today at Natrang Studio Theatre in its weekly Sunday Theatre series. The play was adapted and directed by Balwant Thakur and was based on a short story by Charanjeet. The story was made contemporary by putting present day situations and contexts. The ultramodern concept like ‘Loyalty Test’ which has boomed the TRPs of the channels, is dramatically re-visited through this presentation of the play. The story of the play goes like this, Romilla who is about to marry Nariender- the boy of her choice, plans to take his loyalty test as her cousin Sumitra is apprehensive that may be Nariender is after her wealth and not loves Romilla truly, she had a reason for this as Romilla was from a very rich family and Nariender, though working professional, comes from a poor family. So story takes off here, both Nariender and Romilla are set to meet at Nariender’s rented accommodation. Suddenly there appears her cousin Sumitra pretending herself as Nariender’s married wife and claims that he is now leaving her just for wealth and riches. Stunned and shocked over this development, Nariender repeatedly contests his truthfulness of loving only Romilla that too not for her being rich. In this pre-scripted drama, Nariender is subjected to a mental torture and finally he is awarded cent-percent marks in this loyalty test. The drama is over but Nariender is not ready to forget the mental trauma he lived through and plans a ‘Tit for Tat’ with them. Nariender gives a new twist to the story and claims that while that drama was going on, he had occasion to see Sumitra so intimately that he has fallen in love with her. Her unmatched beauty has made him mad and he cannot live without her. This dramatic turn of Nariender pushes both the sisters in a fighting row and both start cursing each other. Before their fight reaches to a blood-shed, Nariender freezes their action and laughs for being victorious in rightly showing them ‘Tit for Tat’. Sona Mehar as ‘Romilla, was very impressive in portraying her character. Bipin Gupta as the ‘Nariender” was equally successful in justifying his character. Romilla Besnet as ‘Sumitra’ gave new dimensions in the performance by her energetic acting.
