| HC directed PDD top brass to appear in person | | | Early times report
Jammu, Apr 18: Justice JP Singh in a contempt petition directed Commissioner /Secretary to Govt Power Development Dept, Development Commis-sioner Power and Chief Engineer M&RE to appear in person to explain as to why the contempt of court proceedings be not initiated against them for disobedience of directions issued by the Court in the year 2007.
Court direction issued in a contempt petition filed by Daulat Ram and 7 Ors seeking contempt proceedings against the above said officers as they have not comply with the direction of the High Court which was passed in a writ petition that considered the petitioners along with eligible candidates for the promotion to the post of Assistant Engineer (electric) in PDD with effect from the date they become entitled.
Justice JP Singh after hearing Advocate Veenu Gupta appearing for the petitioners whereas Adv GS Thakur appeared for the respondents observed that compliance report filed by the functionaries of the state Govt does not indicate any action taken by the functionaries to the state to comply with the directions, the Govt order dated October 11, 2007 projected by the respondents to be compliance of the Court directions, refers only to the compliance of interim directions and there is no even a whisper in the order as to how the respondents had acted to comply with the direction in considering petitioners case for substantive promotion as Assistant Engineer (electric) and directed three top PDD officers to appear in person in Court on the next date of hearing. ---JNF
