| Chib castigates Congress dissidents | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 18: Expetedly the Minister for Medical and Technical Education, R.S. Chib, has shown his guts in identifying people who were trying to weaken the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir by organising parallel functions. Chib did not even spare even his ministerial colleague, G.M. Saroori, whom he blamed for not having given permission to the Congress for holding a function in the Dak Bunglow in Anantnag in connection with the 125th anniversary of the party. The Rajput blood in Chib boiled when he came to know that Ghulam Nabi Azad had travelled all the way from Jammu to Shangus to be part of the function held in connection with the death anniversary of Maqbool Dar, Union Minister of state for Home. It is a matter of surprise that Azad had time to attend the function in connection with Dar 's death anniversary and not the once held by the party leaders to commemor ate the 125th anniversary of the Congress. Possibly Azad had forgotten that Dar had joined the Janata Dal after quitting the Congress. Chib expressed his anger and resentment against those trying to hold par allel functions. The hint was directed against Azad, Saroori and Tara Chand who have been organising series par allel meetings in the Jammu region. What seems to have compounded the problem within the Pradesh Congress Committee is the shifting stand of Azad. Today he announces sanyas from state politics and next day he is omnipresent within Jammu and Kashmir. He is critical of the ruling coalition on one day and on the other day he is highly appreciative of the policies and programmes of the Government led by Omar Abdullah. As long as the rift between Soz and Azad continues to plague the Congress Omar Abdullah will have a field day. This is because both Soz and Azad are trying to keep him in good humour. At one stage Azad would be seen closeted with Farooq Abdullah and Soz playing a second fiddle to Omar Abdullah. Now that Azad has plans of taking active part in Kashmir politics he has thought it convenient to go closer to Omar. Azad knows it well that Omar can get a number of benefits for the state from the Union Health Ministry and against that Omar can neither gain nor lose from Soz. Soz cannot decide whether the current political arrangement has to continue or not. Such a decision can be taken only by the Congress High Command. But as a result of the ongoing tussle between the loyalists and the dissidents not only a section of party leaders but also the workers stand a confused lot. They do no know whether it would be beneficiary for them to remain loyal to Soz or shift their loyalty to the camp headed by Ghulam Nabi Azad. A divided Congress can provide strength to the National Conference.
