| Crops burnt in RS Pura, Kanhachak | | | JAMMU: Fire Services Week celebrations by the directorate of fire and emergency services notwithstanding, fire tenders Sunday reached late to extinguish fire in the fields of RS Pura and Kanhachak.
Due to the late arrival of fire tenders, crops in several acres of agricultural land were reduced to ashes at the two places, according to police sources.
When the fire broke out in R S Pura fields, farmers wasted no time in alerting the local office of the fire and emergency services.
Sources said fire tenders reached the spot after about two hours when crops in several acres of land had been reduced to ashes.The farmers later held a demonstration against the department, saying had the fire tenders reached on time, the crops could have been saved.
They said adequate number of fire tenders should be made available at RS Pura.
Meanwhile, crop in Kanhachak area was also burnt after fire broke out in some fields.
